Minion Land: Attractions (Part 1)
3 - Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
D-Ticket
Must be 40 in.
Journey into Gru's laboratory, where guests will have the chance to become one of his Minions.
QUEUE:
Located in the back of the land is a recreation of the neighborhood seen in the films. Guests will easily recognize Gru's house standing out, advertising the attraction and serving as their entrance to the ride. Guests will then travel through the interior of the house, moving past many rooms before going into his lab. Here, many screens will play videos about Minion training.
PRE-SHOW:
Guests enter a room where window balconies overlook where they are standing. There, Gru will appear and welcome them. He then explains why they are there: he is in need of more Minions and they have volunteered to become them. He then plays a video featuring Dr. Nefario's experiments, and then the eventual success. Gru then scans the room (even though he calls one person out for not bathing.) Soon, Agnes, Edith, and Margo come in and hint that it's their adoption day. With a bit of guilt over this, Gru puts them in charge of Minion training. Agnes is going to give him a present, but Gru leaves before they can do it.
After this pre-show, guests enter the show building. Here, they board their transformation pods and pull down their lap bars.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
When the pods raise and the screen doors open, the girls appear on a hovercraft. They fire Dr. Nefario's machine at the guests, turning them into Minions (this is revealed by a mirror behind them.) They then proceed into an obstacle course. here, the guests dodge fly swatters, land on a cactus, avoid lasers, and even withstand being punched by a giant boxing glove.
Then, for the final test, they determine whether they can work together with other Minions. Here, the Minions create a bridge for them to move over. Then, the girls test the guests by having them resist the banana. However, the other Minions are unable to resist the banana and the bridge falls apart.
From there, guests enter into a more dangerous part of the lab, where they run into Gru. The girls nearly lose the present, but they are able to catch it. After dodging missiles, they take refuge in a small chamber, where Gru reunites with his daughters. Here, Agnes gives him his present, which is a plush version of Gru (a bit charred, but otherwise okay.) Gru then reveals that he did not forget about their adoption day as they had feared, thus revealing a giant amusement park that guests fly through.
After landing in the park, Gru congratulates the guests, saying how they passed their training. He announces that they will be Minions, only for one Minion to knock over Dr. Nefario's machine and turn the guests back into humans. Disappointed by this, Gru dismisses the guests and decides to send in the next group.
POST-RIDE:
When guests exit the theater, they enter into a Minion dance party. (If they're lucky, they might see actual Minions there.) From there, they will exits into Minion Mart, a gift shop.
4 - Villain-Con Minion Blast
C-Ticket
Any Height
Prove that you're the greatest villain of all in this interactive shooter ride. This is based on a ride recently installed in Orlando.
QUEUE:
Located on the left side of the area, guests will see a large building where Villain Con is advertised. Here, guests will see advertisements of villains from the Despicable Me and Minions films. Then, they will enter the convention itself, passing by many booths. This includes Malicious Motors (villain vehicles), Unlawful Outfitters (weaponry), Corrupt Companions (villain pets), Evil Escapes (villain travel agency), and Diabolical Boutique (villain costumes.) As they pass through this area, guests will get a glimpse of their E-Liminator X blasters, which they will use during the ride.
PRE-SHOW:
Guests enter a room where they see a large screen. There, a video plays, welcoming them to the event. Then, the event's most anticipated guests, the Vicious 6, appear. This includes Belle Bottom, Svengeance, Nun-Chuck, Stronghold, and Jean Clawed, and they are looking for someone to be the sixth member. In order to do this, they have set up a challenge where guests shoot their way through rooms and gain points. The person with the most points will be officially crowned the sixth member.
Guests then proceed into a room where they pick up their blasters. Then, they wait in line for someone to let them onto a moving walkway, where the ride takes place.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
As guests go through the rooms, they will point their blasters at screens and shoot objects. There are two buttons on their blasters: primary blasts and elemental blasts. Primary blasts are unlimited. Elemental blasts are limited, but they do more damage.
Guests will go through seven rooms, causing as much destruction as they can. Depending on the room, they will have a different objective. In the first room, it's just a test where they shoot boxes, minions, and other things. Then, they enter a room themed to Jean Clawed, where they attack boats and buoys and robotic sea creatures. Next is a room themed to Nun-Chuck, where they blast musical notes. They then attack bombs in Svengeance's room. In Stronghold's room, they will shoot targets. Then, they will shoot disco balls and flashing lights in Belle Bottom's room. The last room is a place to max out your score, shooting many objects as they fly through a backdrop of Universal Studios San Antonio.
POST-RIDE:
After getting off the moving walkway, guests give away their blasters. They can also check the leader board to see their scores. Then, they proceed into a gift shop, Evil Stuff.
